African Parks Network:
This is an organization critical to African conservation. The APN maintains existing parks and reserves, and it also opens new parks and repopulates them with the wildlife that should naturally exist in those ecosystems. This process requires cooperation between conservationists in different countries, and provides jobs and education to areas in different parts of Africa. Expanding and protecting these habitats is critical to the survival of all the incredible species that call them home.
Path of the Panther:
This Florida organization focuses on the connectivity of different areas to aid in the recovery of the endangered Florida Panther, the only puma sub-species that still remains in the US east of the Mississippi. This organization strategy to protect wildlife corridors to give predators and other large species the vast territory they need to survive serves as an excellent example for other conservation efforts to emulate.
Endangered Wildlife Trust:
This organization addresses the specific plight of several endangered species in need of help. As an example, this group helps the critically endangered cheetah by relocating them to nations and parks where they have been extinct for decades. This process is critical to improving the populating numbers from the current 7,000.
Panthera:
Panthera is an international conservation project for big cat research and preservation. The group has on going efforts to study and protect jaguars in Brazil, tigers in sumatra, and leopard in Africa. Panthera's goals extend to scientific research about these important animals.
The Great Plains Foundation Big Cats Initiative was set up in 2009 by the National Geographic Society and Dereck and Beverly Joubert who are globally recognized conservationists and filmmakers. The initiative was set up to fund big cat conservation efforts on a global scale and to safeguard their essential habitats. Today, the charity works with other conservation organizations and big cat experts to assess wild cat populations, fund on the ground conservation projects, and raise awareness of the plight of big cats worldwide.
